veggie garden updates

finally Mac has worked out how to blog directly from Flickr, so you can expect a few more image based updates over the next week or so.

first of these being news of the ‘project veggie garden’: py is now in the final stages of preparing the soil, in the raised beds. the reclaimed brick paving is 99% there. we have 2 year old potted lemon and lime trees (at the back in this shot) in place. so just some tidying up to do then py will be planting up the beds and getting the produce flowing.

vegie garden

well slowly slowly we progress with the vegie garden… getting the brick paving done and then it’ll be turning the soil and getting it ready to plant my first crop smile will add another photo when it’s finally finished!

teeth and t-shirts

well we don’t seem to be particularly good at keeping this blog up to date, but figured it was about time that we updated a few recent events. Noë is now six months old (boy hasn’t time flown!) and cut his two bottom teeth last Friday. Mac has also been busy screenprinting t-shirts for our little man to wear, one of which can be seen in this photo… more to come later!

latest shots of the little Noë Zachary

Noë’s Flickr collection has been updated. a few people have asked recently via email why there aren’t more shots on the blog. well cos they are mostly on the Flickr account, and cos we take so many we don’t get round to sort through them. at the moment we take at least three or four shots a day so over the last 4 months they have started to pile up!!

the one above is from a series of self portraits py has been doing of her and our little monkey. think he is trying to do his best daddy serious face there!

every studio has a subscription to Creative Review…

so it’s staff have something to read in their lunch break. so it is that arcd_studio now has a subscription to Creative Review for the next three years. the cost of imported magazines here is so high that buying the mag 10 times a year would have cost as much as an overseas subscription for three years - crazeee.

Noë gets his own logo

having painted a cool mural for Noë, Mac had to add to that first creation by coming up with a cool design for his door. so he came up with a custom font based around Noë’s name and the unique e/umlaut combination. here is the result, where the ë becomes a cool little frog. this might just yet turn into a bit of a side project - we’ll keep you posted…

world peace day - 21st September

the 21st September is world peace day, if you have any way to get involved with supporting the idea of world peace the 21st would be as good a day as any to get involved. down under a couple of film makers have launched million votes 4 peace with a view to raising awareness and collating a name and postcode for Australians who support peace.

a reason for everything and everything with a reason

well they say that having a baby changes your life, but the funny thing is at the moment it really is hard to say exactly how much. I know a few of you will be going Mac loves his sleep so that is one obvious area, and py must be feeding every couple of hours which must be a big change. however when people make that statement I am sure they are referring to bigger things like the sense of responsibility, how this little thing has a complete dependency on you both as parents, how you don’t get five spare minutes to your self and how hard it is to say goodbye each morning when you head to work.

thing is we have had a couple of other things that, for Mac at least, have kept some of the enormity in check. the first is our tendency to do big things in twos and or threes - so having bought our first home so close to noë’s birth that has given us another responsibility to come to terms with. the second is the curve ball called life - a few of you know, but on the day noë came home for the first time Mac also got the news that he had been made redundant, his new employer having gone into receivership (that’s another story).

now a few people might start thinking house, newborn - no job ARGHHHHHHHH!! however as the title suggests Mac was actually far more philosophical about this extra responsibility. see as all the dads out there will know Mac wasn’t exactly looking forward to going back to work proper, that whole first experience of kissing mum and baby goodbye for the day not knowing if the studio might need him to work late… py I’m sure was wandering exactly how Mac was going to really react to this bombshell - indeed in over 8 years together the burden of money expectations has probably been the only thing that Mac can get overwhelmed by. but a few days down the line and Mac was quite firmly unfazed, barely a couple of emails and a posting to a design forum and connections and job offers were surfacing - including a couple of interesting contracts that could be completed from home.

And so it is after nearly 7 weeks (noë will be 7 weeks on sunday) Mac has had the chance to work from home and spend time with Noë and py for all but 4 days, has had a studio pay for flights back to the Adelaide for the whole family and has been on hand to help py out between Photoshop and InDesing files. for the meantime this is the way things are going to stay and who knows it might become a more permanent arrangement for the pyMac family if the contracts keep rolling in.

as they say everything happens for a reason and right now we are grateful for little curve ball life threw our way.

enjoy every moment while it is with us…
